Wedding Photography in London: Kate & Gau

April 2, 2017

I was thrilled when Kate and Gau first got in touch and asked me to undertake their Wedding Photography, and I was even more delighted as I actually got to know these two! Such a great couple!

We met some time before their wedding to discuss all their plans as well as for a pre-wedding session  so they could get some practice in front of the camera. Not that they needed any , as it turned out, these two are naturals. (view the shoot here)

I headed down to London for the weekend to photograph Kate and Gau's wedding along with my amazing second shooter. Erin Photography. Have a read about what we got up to whilst we were down there here.

We checked out the both venues the day before so we could get an idea of what to expect. The wedding ceremony took place at the In and Out Navel Club followed by the reception at The Reform Club, just a couple of minutes walk down the road. Both stunningly beautiful, exquisite venues. It was a fantastic opportunity, and a privilege, to be able to photograph both these special venues in all their glory, and, of course, with this lovely couple too!

On the day of the wedding we met Gau and the boys at Ruffians Barbers in Covent Garden to capture them having a quick shave and tidy up ahead of the big day to come! After, we walked down to the local pub, where the best man bought everyone a pint to calm a few last minute nerves before they headed back to start getting ready.

I left Erin at that point and went off to meet Kate at her parents amazing apartment on the Embankment! What an amazing view. Everyone was very relaxed when I got there, the prosecco had already been flowing, along with a few cakes to help it all down! I just kept back and let the bride and bridesmaid “do their thing” with getting ready, with a bit of help from mum, of course!

Kate looked so elegant in a simply stated dress by Pronovias, bought at Luxquisite Bridal in Bath. Helen, Kate’s Bridesmaid, wore a lovely blue dress from Ghost, both wore shoes by Dune. The girls’ hair and make up were created by award winning hair and make-up artist Tamara Tott.

Once everyone was ready the time came to head to the ceremony. No surprise, the traffic was bedlam that day in London, a huge NHS Demonstration was taking place, so funny, as  both Kate, Gau as well as most of the wedding guests all being NHS doctors!!

Finally, with only minutes to spare we  arrived at the In and Out Club. The special couple had their beautiful ceremony in the most breathtaking room, whilst surrounded by exquisite paintings of the Royals!

Outside, a huge dark cloud of rain was fast approaching, we had to hurry everyone out to quickly try and capture the confetti shot. Kate’s mum and dad were handing out delicate flower petal confetti from Shropshire Petals. The confetti was thrown, to much cheering and clapping, just in time! The bride and groom lead their guests down the road to The Reform club. With everyone walking nice and calmly to the Reform Club, Erin and I meanwhile were running around like lunatics, in and out of the road trying to capture the best shots of all the guests.

We kept grabbing Kate and Gau away from the hectic celebrations throughout the evening so we could try and get some natural photographs as the newly weds, I think they were little glad to get some “quiet” time too!

One of my favourite shots from the day turned out to be one the Groom had requested, it was of all his groomsmen sat outside on the steps of the Reform Club, attempting to recreate a similar picture of David Cameron, Boris Johnson and some other scholars originally sat on the steps of Oxford University. It had us all in fits of laughter, how serious they all took it! You can view the original picture of David and Boris here.

So, such a fun packed, special day topped off with some truly great live music from The Soul Beat, they had the dance floor packed from start to finish.

The wedding really was just remarkable, and full of extraordinary people, with great venues, amazing food and cool music. What a truly stunning, incredible couple Kate and Gau are. We are so grateful to them for letting us be a part in sharing and capturing their perfect special day.

Here is their story...
